Midtown TGI Friday's Set to Be Demolished for Senior Housing
The TGI Friday's at 677 Lexington was vacated last week and will be torn down for senior housing.
MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — TGI Friday's has closed up shop in Midtown at 677 Lexington Avenue and is about to make way for a new luxury senior housing project.
City records show the demolition was approved on July 14. Rand Engineering and Architecture, which applied for the demolition, said by email they couldn't divulge when the building would be torn down.
But we do know what will be going up at the spot on the corner of Lexington Avenue and East 56th Street. According to multiple reports, a luxury senior housing project will rise on the spot. The Wall Street Journal was the first to report in June that the facility would have rooms going for $20,000 per month. And soon after renderings of the project, courtesy of SLCE Architects, appeared on Curbed NY.

The development will be built by developer Hines and Welltower, a real estate trust that deals mainly with senior-living facilities.
SLCE Architects, who designed the building, is known for many buildings, but maybe most prominently the One57 supertower.

The TGI Friday's is now vacant after closing to customers on July 19.
