NYC Ferry Stop Coming To Midtown Summer 2021, City Says
A public ferry between Staten Island and Pier 79 at West 39th Street is still on track to open later this summer, NYC Ferry said.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — A public ferry between Staten Island and Midtown West is still on track to open later this summer, NYC Ferry said this week.
The new St. George route will run between Pier 79 at West 39th Street and St. George in Staten Island. Work began last month on the ferry's St. George landing ahead of the summertime launch, an NYC Ferry spokesperson said.
First launched in 2017, NYC Ferry now operates five routes traversing the East River, South Brooklyn and the Rockaways. The following year, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that service would expand by 2021 with new routes to Staten Island and Coney Island.

The St. George ferry will run about every half hour during peak commuting periods, and less frequently during off-peak hours. Trips between Staten Island and Midtown will take about 35 minutes, including a middle stop in Battery Park City.
Like subways and buses, the ferries cost $2.75 per ride, with tickets available from machines at each landing or on the NYC Ferry smartphone app. The system is operated by the private company Hornblower, whose contract with the city has attracted scrutiny for its high costs.

The St. George route will help commuters from Staten Island to Midtown save about 20 minutes each way, compared to the existing MTA Express Bus or the Staten Island Ferry and subway.
