HUDSON YARDS, NY — The skyscrapers of the Hudson Yards neighborhood are set to debut this year, bringing a whole new level of residential, commercial and tourist activity to Manhattan's west side. One of the main highlights will be New York City's highest observation deck.

The observation deck at 30 Hudson Yards will be located 1,100 feet in the air and extend 65 feet from the skyscraper to give visitors unubstructed views of Manhattan and the Hudson River, building owners said in a press release. The observation deck, nicknamed the "Edge," is expected to open in early 2020.

"Edge invites visitors to walk out into the sky and embrace unobstructed, panoramic views of New York City like never before," Jason Horkin, Executive Director of Hudson Yards Experiences, said in a statement. "The name reflects both the unique structural design, which pierces the sky when observed from below, and the exhilarating feeling of being on the brink of something exceptional—exactly where you are on edge."

The observation deck will also feature a 10,000-square-foot restaurant, bar and event space. The space will be operated by the hospitality group Rhubarb and will be the group's first venture in New York City. The company operates more than 70 venues in London, according to its website.

A recent study proclaimed Hudson Yards to be one of New York City's "neighborhoods to watch" in 2019. The study, conducted by the data whizzes at Localize.city, determines which city neighborhoods will be most appealing to New Yorkers looking to move in the next year.

A number of high-profile openings will make 2019 a busy year for Hudson Yards. Many of the mega-developments in the works since a 2005 rezoning of the area will debut in the coming year, including an office tower and hotel at 30 and 35 Hudson Yards and a 67-story office tower at 1 Manhattan West, according to the Localize study. The area will also see an influx of high-end retail when The Shops and Restaurants opens in March.
