Permits Filed For 33-Story Midtown Apartment Tower
It's the second time in recent years that developers have sought to replace the five-story building near Madison Avenue with a high-rise.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — A developer filed permits Friday to construct a new 33-story tower on a Midtown block that currently houses a row of shops.
The permits at 12-14 East 37th St. call for a 324-foot-tall building that would contain 121 apartments, spread out over nearly 80,000 square feet. It would also have about 800 square feet of commercial space.
Friday's permits were filed by Gerner Kronick + Valcarcel architects, a Midtown firm that has also designed towers on the Lower East Side and the Upper East Side. The listed owner was Yusuf Bildirici of B&F Management.

This is not the first time the site has been targeted for a new tower: in 2015, the Turkish developer Nef revealed plans for a 65-story, 700-plus-foot building at the same address, designed by architects Perkins+Will. But construction permits were never filed and the plans appeared to fizzle, the New York Times reported in 2016.
The address is currently home to a five-story building that houses a deli, a dental office and a shuttered pizza shop.
