Plans Filed For Massive Hell's Kitchen Apartment Tower
The more than 700-foot-tall tower will occupy the site of a former Mercedes-Benz dealership.
HELL'S KITCHEN, NY — Plans have been filed with the city Department of Buildings to construct a massive apartment complex on the site of a former Mercedes-Benz dealership in Hell's Kitchen.
Silverstein Properties — the same developer behind the World Trade Center reconstruction — plan on building a 57-story, 723-foot-tall tower at 520 W. 41st St. The site, located between 10th and 11th avenues, was purchased by Silverstein from Mercedes-Benz in early 2015 for $115 million, according to city real estate records.
The new tower would house 499 apartment units and a substantial amount of commercial space, according to building plans filed with the DOB. The plans call for 62,960-square-feet of buildable commercial space and 547,718-square-feet of residential space for a total development size of 606,815 square feet. The commercial space is expected to be allocated within the new development's first five floors and the rest of the building will be residential, according to building plans.

The tower is expected to be one of two buildings to be constructed on the former car dealership site, real estate publication New York YIMBY first reported. The plans filed by Silverstein signal the end of a formerly proposed 1,400-foot-tall development planned for the site, YIMBY reported.
