Plans For New Hell's Kitchen Citi Bike Stations Unveiled

Representatives from the city this week unveiled the proposed locations of five new Citi Bike stations in Hell's Kitchen and Chelsea.

HELL'S KITCHEN, NY — Representatives from the city this week unveiled the proposed locations of five new Citi Bike stations in Hell's Kitchen and Chelsea.

The proposed stations, which were shown to a Community Board 4 committee Wednesday by Department of Transportation staffers, are part of the ride-share program's infill process, in which the city is increasing the density of bike stations in neighborhoods where the program is already active.

The DOT is proposing new stations in the following places:

  • 8th Avenue at West 27th Street (on sidewalk, east side of street)
  • West 35th Street at 9th Avenue (in road, south side of street)
  • West 44th Street and 11th Avenue (in road, north side of street)
  • West 50th Street and 10th Avenue (in road, south side of street)
  • West 54th Street and 11th Avenue (in road, north side of street)

Members of the board's transportation committee expressed support for the expansion but some shared concerns that the sidewalk docks near West 27th Street could obstruct access for pedestrians with disabilities.

The broader expansion plan calls for Citi Bike to grow its service area by 35 square miles and add another 16,000 bikes to city streets by 2024. A map of existing Citi Bike stations is available online.
