Supertall Central Park Tower To Welcome First Residents

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — The latest supertall addition to Midtown's skyline will soon welcome its first residents, as apartment sales begin in the Central Park Tower.

Closings are underway in the 1,550-foot-tall building on 57th Street, which ranks as the tallest residential building in the world, developer Extell announced Thursday.

"This landmark skyscraper will set a new standard for resort-style luxury living in New York City and beyond," said Extell, which has built several of the skyscrapers along the street that has become known as Billionaire's Row.

Central Park Tower, which cost $3 billion to build, has nearly 200 apartments, but most of those have yet to sell, the Financial Times reported. Sales start at $6.5 million, with developers hoping to raise about $4 billion, the New York Times reported.

The building is also known as the Nordstrom Tower for the flagship department store that opened in 2019 on its bottom seven stories, taking up 320,000 square feet. Residents get special access to the store, Extell said.

Extell boasts that residents will enjoy sweeping skyline and Central Park views, access to an exclusive private club on the tower's 100th floor, a large terrace with a swimming pool and cabanas, and a "discreet, gated valet entrance" on 58th Street in addition to the main lobby on 57th Street.

The towers along Billionaire's Row have polarized some New Yorkers, and residents in at least one of the buildings have complained of mechanical problems and loud noises, caused in part by the building's immense height.

Central Park Tower was designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture. In addition to being the world's tallest apartment tower, it is the tallest building by roof height outside of Asia.
