MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — Times Square is one of New York City's most popular destinations for lovers on and around Valentine's Day, so the nonprofit that maintains and organizes programs at the tourist hotspot plans to decorate the square to celebrate the holiday.

The Times Square Alliance recently revealed the winning submission for this year's Times Square Valentine Heart Design Competition, the organization announced. This year's winning design, by MODU and Eric Forman Studio, is made using 125 mirrors that are positioned at specific angles to reveal the image of a heart.

Creators named the installation "Heart Squared."

"While the position of each mirror seems random, the designers developed a specialized technique to calculate the specific angles in order to hide a playful surprise. As viewers move around the structure towards a special marked location, those hundreds of reflections suddenly coalesce, revealing a pixel heart of urban life surrounded by a field of mirrored sky," a spokesperson for the Times Square Alliance said in a statement.

The artwork will be installed in Times Square on Jan. 30 and will stay on display through March 1, according to the Times Square Alliance. Visitors can view the sculpture and take photos in front of it free of charge.
