Why Giant Tweets Are Appearing In Bryant Park This Week

It's part of a campaign by Twitter and the city to encourage mask-wearing during the pandemic.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — Think twice before sending a tweet about the next non-mask-wearer you see on the subway: your witty remark could wind up as a giant billboard above Bryant Park.

Twitter is partnering with the City of New York this week to create the murals and billboards, which feature blown-up versions of real tweets by users discussing face masks. The campaign aims to promote mask use during the pandemic.

At least one billboard has already gone up above the 42nd Street Hilton Garden Inn, just west of Bryant Park: it features an Aug. 21 tweet by user Brett Cohen, fretting about "Resting Mask Face."

Cohen's is among 100 million mask-related tweets posted since March, Twitter says.

The billboards are also going up in Midtown West, the DUMBO Archway, and in Seattle, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami and New Jersey.
