On July 17, Mount Vernon Public Library had their annual board meeting to reorganize the library board officers and honor their youth employees.
Trustee Oscar Davis Jr. was elected again as President of the Library Board of Trustees. This makes his third term as President in his five years as a trustee.
During his five-year tenure, his goal was to make changes that would improve the library’s image in the community. Under his leadership, the library’s appearance has improved and new programs and services have been offered to the community. Our computers and network infrastructure have been upgraded, we have reunited out relationship with ArtsWestchester and have built new partnerships such as our popular Passport Assistance Program in cooperation with the Mount Vernon Post Office. The community has taken notice of the changes and our circulation numbers and visitors to the library has increased.

Trustee Malcom Clark was elected as the new Vice President of the Board of Trustees. He has led several initiatives in Mount Vernon government such as, policy positions on juvenile justice and housing.
This position was previously held by Trustee Cathlin Gleason-Boncardo. She has served on many boards that help the communities of Mount Vernon such as vice president of the Youth Community Outreach Program (YCOP) and President of the Board of Directors of Community Service Associates. She brought her expertise to the library in her role as Vice President and through her initiative, we are embarking on our first ever, golf outing fundraising event.

Trustee Judy Williams Davis regained her position as Board Secretary. She once served as a Human Resources Commissioner for the City of Mount Vernon and found employment for hundreds of Mount Vernon citizens.
Jose Alvelo was sworn in to once again serve as Library Treasurer. A finance executive with a record of over 25 years of contributions to organizations and corporations.
The room was packed with over 30 youth employees in attendance, the Library Board of Trustees, honored the young people who have graduated from high school with a certificate of achievement.
The board showed they are not only improving the library but the community. In the last five years, the library has increased their youth employment from 4 to 39 and hired several more employees.
“These young people will make a powerful impact in this city and abroad”, says Trustee President Oscar Davis. “We are here to support our youth.”
