YONKERS, NY — A man was hospitalized with brain injuries in critical care overnight after being attacked by a large group, including "known gang members," Yonkers police say.

The victim was hit on the head with a bottle and repeatedly stomped. Investigators say they have made several arrests in connection with the attack. Authorities say there are more possible suspects still at large. Yonkers Police Commissioner John Mueller said the actions of the violent mob were witnessed by at least 50 people.

"The overwhelming majority of people who live and work in Yonkers are wonderful people; we need to stand together to make sure that these people are brought to justice," Mueller said in a statement. "I can say with absolute certainty that everyone would agree this is not the kind of world we want to live in."
