Bill Noble to Speak at Wave Hill's First Horticultural Lecture of the Year
Wave Hill's Horticultural Lecture Series opens on January 18. Garden designer Bill Noble will speak on the topic of Cornish colony gardens.
From Wave Hill: Wave Hill’s 2017 Horticultural Lecture Series opens January 18 with garden designer Bill Noble speaking on the topic of Cornish colony gardens.
Attracted by the beauty of the upper Connecticut River Valley, some of the leading artists of the 19th century—sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens, architect Charles Platt, landscape designer Ellen Shipman and more—created a new style of garden in Cornish, NH, looking to Italy for design inspiration and to New England for honest materials and hardy plants. Garden designer Bill Noble has worked to revive and restore a number of these gardens and applied some of the lessons to his own garden in Norwich, VT.
An ongoing series hosted by the Friends of Horticulture Committee, Wave Hill’s horticultural lectures are devoted to landscape design and the meaning of our interactions with plants and the natural world. The series will continue on February 15 and March 15 with lectures by David Fried (founder of Elmore Roots Nursery) and Jack Straub (garden writer and co-founder of Hortulus Farm).
