Candidates Sought For Mount Vernon City Judge Vacancy
Resumes for the position will be accepted until July 30. Interviews will follow shortly after, according to Mount Vernon's mayor.
MOUNT VERNON, NY—Following Judge Adrian Armstrong’s recent appointment to the New York State Court of Claims, the position of city court judge is now vacant and one that Mount Vernon Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard hopes to fill soon.
“Congratulations to Judge Adrian Armstrong on his new appointment to the NYS Court of Claims. His work in Mount Vernon has touched the lives of many of our residents and in his new position as a NYS Court of Claims judge, he will serve New York proudly," the mayor said in a statement. "Our work now focuses on filling his position with a competent and qualified candidate. I’ll be forming a committee to review the resumes, interview candidates and provide recommendations on who to appoint to this position.”
The mayor is currently calling on residents of Mount Vernon to submit resumes to mclark@cmvny.com no later than July 30, 2020 at 4:30 p.m. for consideration. Candidates for the city court judge position should be prepared to interview by Saturday, Aug. 1, 2020, she said.

To help with the hiring process, Mayor Patterson-Howard said she has also asked William O. Wagstaff III, Esq. to chair her judicial committee, which will interview and provide recommendations to the mayor on this appointment.
“William O. Wagstaff III has proven to be a zealous advocate for equal rights for all, said Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard. “The starting point for the adjudication of criminal cases in Mount Vernon is the City Court. Understanding that, it was important to me for the Chair of the committee to be a person who will facilitate a fair process that yields the best candidates for me to select from and ensure justice is served in the Jewel of Westchester," Mayor Patterson-Howard said.

Wagstaff said he is honored to serve on the committee and looks forward to sorting through all the candidates and finding the best person for the job.
“As a member of the legal profession and an advocate, it is a great honor to be entrusted with the chairmanship of Mayor Patterson-Howard’s Judiciary Committee, the role judges play in the criminal justice system cannot be understated, and that makes this appointment especially important,” said Wagstaff. “I am deeply grateful to Mayor Patterson-Howard for her vision, dedication, and passion and am excited for what the future holds under the mayor’s leadership.”
