YONKERS, NY - A rash of gun violence in lower Westchester turned deadly early morning on Father's Day, police said.

Yonkers police were called to the scene in the 400 block of Bronx River Road just after 5 a.m. Sunday morning, where a man was reportedly on the ground and bleeding from the head. Officers found a 22-year-old unconscious with a head injury.

Meanwhile, Yonkers police are publicizing anonymous ways for witnesses to come forward with information about serious crimes.

This week, Yonkers Police Commissioner John Mueller said the unwillingness of witnesses to cooperate with investigators has hampered the department’s ability to put a stop to the recent upswing in violence, including an incident on Thursday, in which a mob of suspected gang members are accused of brutally stomping a man. The attack caused brain injuries, leaving the victim in critical condition.

“Well over fifty people last night saw what happened and we need them to come forward and do the right thing,” Mueller said at the time. “There is a lot of talk about police responsibility and police accountability, but there is also community responsibility and community accountability to each other.”
