Fatal Crash On The Sprain Parkway
An SUV that was rear-ended crashed into a state transportation department truck in a construction zone.
YONKERS, NY — One person died in a three-vehicle crash at a construction site on the Sprain Brook Parkway near Central Park Avenue Monday afternoon.
New York State Police were called to the Sprain Brook Parkway in Yonkers at 1:22 p.m. for the crash, which involved a state Department of Transportation truck.
The preliminary investigation found a 2017 Toyota Sienna, operated by Besim Shala, 44, of Brewster, rear-ended a 2010 Honda Odyssey van in the right-hand lane. The Odyssey was pushed into a stationary DOT truck, which was blocking the right lane of travel to protect an active construction zone.

The Toyota then rear-ended the Honda a second time.
A passenger in the Honda, Yong Sheng Yin, 63, from Queens, was in the rear of the van holding a ladder, with the rear hatchback door open. Yin was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene by the Westchester Medical Examiner.

The other individuals involved in the crash were minor.
