On July 11, Mount Vernon Public Library cut the ribbon to debut the first Library MediaTM Box in New York State.

It is a kiosk that holds and distributes the newest DVDs, Music CDs, and video games. It is manufactured by Public Information Kiosk, a Division of International Library Services in Potomac, Maryland.

The complete collection can be accessed from the monitor on the kiosk on South First Avenue and online on the library website.

The Mount Vernon Public Library was built in 1905 by Andrew Carnegie. It is the only library in Westchester County working in its original building. It is a member of the Westchester Library System and the Central Library for Westchester County New York.

“This building is probably one of the best buildings in the entire city of Mount Vernon that you want to find yourself in. Because in this building is education, in this building is anything or everything you need to know to succeed,” said Pretlow.

The library has been working to expand their services and provide the public with new and advanced products. With this new installment, the library now has a collection with more than 350,000 books, CDs, DVDs, movies, eBooks, periodicals, streaming media and video games.

“We are trying to bring things in to change the way we do business for our community,” said Trustee Board President, Oscar Davis Jr. “This just the beginning! Ladies and gentlemen we have a lot of work to do.”
