Spectrum and HomeFront Help Mount Vernon Homeowner
Spectrum and HomeFront provide critical repairs and restoration as part of Spectrum Housing Assist, Charter's philanthropic initiative
Twenty Spectrum employee volunteers were in Mount Vernon on Saturday, October 26, to help repair and restore the home of Maureen, a 68-year-old homeowner. New York State Senator Jamaal Bailey attended the event.
The event is part of Charter Communications’ signature national philanthropic initiative, Spectrum Housing Assist, which focuses on safe and healthy homes and has a national goal to improve 50,000 homes in the communities it serves by 2020.
Spectrum partnered with HomeFront, a community-based, volunteer-driven home repair program that provides repairs to low-income homeowners at no cost to them, enabling them to remain in their homes with an improved quality of life.

“HomeFront is excited to again partner with Spectrum in making critical repairs for our residents to keep them safe in their homes and neighborhoods,” said Sean O’Brien, HomeFront’s Executive Director.
Said Rodney Capel, Spectrum’s Vice President of Government Affairs for the New York City region, “Spectrum is happy to offer our help in creating a safe home environment for Maureen in Mount Vernon. At Spectrum, our technicians serve thousands of customers in their homes every day, and with the help of HomeFront through Spectrum Housing Assist, we can serve the community by helping make our neighbors’ homes safe and healthy.”

Said Senator Bailey, “I would like to thank Spectrum and HomeFront for their philanthropic efforts in improving the homes of residents. Mount Vernon residents are still feeling the effects of the housing crisis. Many homes have been left abandoned or in desperate need of repair, which has greatly impacted the city’s quality of life – housing is a human right. I applaud Spectrum for taking on this initiative through their Spectrum Housing Assist program and renovating the home of one of my constituents.”
Maureen is a retired nurse who has lived in the home for 20 years and is an active volunteer in the community. Repairs and renovations made by Spectrum employee volunteers will ensure Maureen stays safe, healthy and dry in the home.
Powered by Spectrum’s financial support and the expertise of HomeFront, Spectrum employee volunteers completed the project with interior and exterior improvements including, roof replacement; painting; wall, ceiling and gutter repair; fixing front porch windows; installation of railings in the basement, attic and back porch; basement floor insulation; and replacing doors.
Maureen stated “Words cannot express how I feel. I’m very appreciative of the work done by HomeFront and Spectrum. I have less stress and feel a tremendous load off my shoulders, especially knowing I now have a dry roof over my head.”
Since its inception, Spectrum Housing Assist has helped improve more than 35,000 homes. To learn more about Spectrum Housing Assist, visit responsibility.spectrum.com.
