Mount Vernon Board of Education Approves Proposed Budget with No Increase in Tax Levy

Board proposes a budget of $238.7 million for 2016-17 school year

The Mount Vernon Board of Education has approved the proposed budget for the 2016-17 school year.

The budget has no increase in the tax levy. The amount of the budget that will be collected in proposed taxes is $134,077,473, which has not changed in three years. The proposed budget is a 3.41 percent increase over the budget for the 2015-16 school year.

“This details of this budget are representative of what this district feels is critically important: Giving each child in the Mount Vernon School District the very best opportunities for the best education possible,” said Board of Education President Adriane G. Saunders in a statement. “We are hopeful voters will feel the same.”

The budget will be voted on by the public on May 17.
