Mount Vernon City Judge To Serve On NY State Court Of Claims

The state Senate confirmed Hon. Adrian N. Armstrong's nomination Friday.

MOUNT VERNON, NY—Mount Vernon City Judge Adrian Armstrong is one of four new judges recently selected to serve as a judge on the New York State Court of Claims. Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo announced the nominations Thursday, which were then confirmed Friday by the state Senate.

"The COVID pandemic was a stress test on governments across the country, but New York showed what it means for government to perform for the people it serves," Gov. Cuomo said in a news release. "The new additions to our team bring a wealth of expertise and knowledge that will be invaluable as we work to build back better from the COVID crisis and continue our record of delivering bold, progressive accomplishments for the people of New York State."

In his new role, Armstrong will serve a 9-year term and earn $208,000 a year.

Armstrong has served as a city court judge since May 2015, filling the unexpired term of Mark Gross who had retired. A 1990 graduate of Pace University School of Law, prior to serving as a judge in Mount Vernon, Armstrong served in the New York City Civil Court as a senior court attorney. He also worked for the Office of the Bronx District Attorney as an assistant district attorney.

With Armstrong’s departure, Mount Vernon Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard will have to appoint a new city judge.
