Mount Vernon took back a job offer when it learned the employee was six months pregnant.

The City of Mount Vernon has been hit with a $60,000 settlement because it rescinded a job offer after learning that the woman being hired was six months pregnant.
La’isha Hillian filed a federal discrimination lawsuit in 2013 after she was offered a job as a fire dispatcher, but the offer was rescinded a week later. The payment to Hillian was approved by the city’s Board of Estimate on Tuesday, according to the Journal News.
Hillian had been offered the job as a fire dispatcher in 2011, but a week after informing the city about the impending birth, the job offer was rescinded.
