Mount Vernon Primary Guide: Who's On The Ballot, How To Vote

MOUNT VERNON, NY — Democratic and Mount Vernon Forward primaries will take place June 22 in Mount Vernon as candidates for county legislator for district 13, comptroller and city council seek a chance to be on their parties' ballot lines in November.

Who's on the ballot:

District 13 County Legislator race: Incumbent Tyrae K. Woodson-Samuels, City Councilwoman Lisa A. Copeland and George W. Brown are running for County Legislator for District 13.

Comptroller race: City Council President Marcus A. Griffith, Darren M. Morton and Derrickson K. Lawrence are running for comptroller. Morton is endorsed by Westchester County Executive George Latimer and County Clerk Timothy Idoni.

City council race: Incumbent Councilwoman Delia Farquharson, Incumbent Councilwoman Janice Duarte, Cathlin Gleason (Democrat, Mount Vernon Forward), Andre D. Wallace, Edward Poteat (Democrat, Mount Vernon Forward), Lauren S. Carter, Nicole Lucio and Danielle Browne (Democrat, Mount Vernon Forward) are running for city council. Duarte, Wallace and Carter are endorsed by County Executive Latimer and County Clerk Idoni.

UPDATE: Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard has endorsed Cathlin Gleason, Edward Poteat, Danielle Browne.

Primary Day voting takes place from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on June 22. Check the Westchester County Polling Place Lookup.

Absentee voting:

This year, you may vote absentee if you will be:

1. Absent from Westchester on Election Day.
2. Unable to appear at the polls due to temporary or permanent illness or disability (temporary illness includes being unable to appear due to risk of contracting or spreading a communicable disease like COVID-19).
3. Unable to appear because you are the primary caregiver of one or more individuals who are ill or physically disabled.
4. A resident or patient of a Veterans Health Administration Hospital.
5. Detained in jail awaiting Grand Jury action or confined in prison after conviction for an offense other than a felony.

To apply for an absentee ballot, either by requesting an application or letter of application by mail, or sending an email or fax for an absentee ballot, the deadline is June 15.

The last day to apply in person for an absentee ballot is June 21.

Absentee ballots must be postmarked by June 15 or taken to the Westchester County Board of Elections by June 21. A mailed-in absentee ballot must be received by the local board of elections no later than June 29.
