MOUNT VERNON, NY — The polls have closed and the votes have been tallied. The unofficial results are in. Here's what the voters decided in the 2021 Mount Vernon school budget election.

The Mount Vernon School District 2021-22 budget was APPROVED 865 to 330.

The approved budget is $259,601,834, with no increase over the 2020-21 spending package and a 0.5 percent increase in the tax levy.

The school board says the proposed budget will allow Mount Vernon schools to maintain current staffing rates as well as to meet state-mandated special education requirements.


There were six candidates vying for three open school board seats. The winners are:

  • Darthea "Darcy" Miller (incumbent)
  • Wanda White (incumbent)

Incumbent Micah McOwen was defeated


Vivien Salmon was elected to the Mount Vernon Library Board of Trustees.
