Semi-Truck Hits Bridge Jamming Rush Hour Traffic On The Hutch
For the second time in as many weeks, a tractor trailer hit the same Lincoln Ave overpass in Mount Vernon, causing backups on the Hutch.
MOUNT VERON, NY — There was still debris alongside the highway from last week’s accident when yet another semi-truck struck the bridge spanning the Hutchinson River Parkway this morning. The accident happened just before the Tuesday morning rush hour.
Although the tractor-trailer was destroyed, no serious injuries were reported. The accident closed lanes and created a bottleneck for the morning commute. Crews were still removing the wreckage early this afternoon.
The semi-truck hit the Lincoln Avenue overpass while traveling northbound on the Hutchinson River Parkway. The accident clogged rush hour traffic in both directions and also caused backups on the nearby Cross County Parkway.

A similar accident occurred last week at the same location.
The bridge was already the site of a major construction project with crews replacing the existing overpass. A temporary bridge has been placed south of the structure to allow traffic to cross the Hutch while construction continues.
