Yonkers Alamo Drafthouse Reveals Reopening Plans

Dinner and a show will soon be available under the same roof once again, but after more than a year of staying in, will movie fans return?

YONKERS, NY — The popular Alamo Drafthouse in Yonkers will reopen in July.

The Austin-based theater chain says opening the doors of the Central Park Ave. location is part of accelerated plans to bring films back to screens across the country. In all, 15 Alamo Drafthouses will again open to welcome film buffs this summer.

An exact date for the company’s planned July grand reopening in Yonkers has not yet been set.

“In August of 2020, our teams began slowly and methodically reopening theaters all over the country – and I do mean slowwwwly,” Alamo Drafthouse spokesperson and social media manager John Smith wrote in a statement revealing the reopening plans. “It’s a lot of (expensive) work to wake one of these babies up – considerably more than a little bit of dusting – so that's why we've been slow to reopen locations in 2021.”

Smith says there will be a few coronavirus-related changes to the movie going experience.

When the theater screens reopen, seating will be reduced with a 6-foot buffer between parties. Cinema buffs will be required to wear masks at all times except when eating or drinking.

Moviegoers will be asked to arrive 30 minutes prior to showtime in order to stagger seating in the auditoriums. Likewise, visitors will be required to stagger their departures after the film is over.

Guests are able to pre-order food when purchasing tickets and the menu options have been limited to make it easier to maintain limited personal contact for both guests and staff.

The theater chain’s movie pass and rewards programs remain suspended for the time being, but are expected to be reintroduced soon.
