Back-To-School Shopping In Nanuet Includes Tax Break

Certain items under $110 are exempt from New York State sales taxes.

NANUET, NY - While back-to-school shopping season can involve several purchases, families in New York can buy a portion of their items tax-free.

The savings come because, according to the state's Department of Taxation and Finance, clothing and footwear items under $110 are exempt from the state's four-percent sales tax.

County sales taxes for footwear and clothing are still applicable in much of New York State, the department adds. However, New York City, along with Columbia and Greene counties in the Mid Hudson Valley, also offer the same $110 exemption.
