Chanukah Puppet Show

Bring your little ones to the Palisades Center Mall to celebrate Chanukah with Princess Moxie Rules. It is   a fun musical puppet show with singing and props for children ages 0-5 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the H&M Court on the first floor of the mall. Free and open to the public. Chanukah Festival

Join the Chanukah Festival beginning at 5 p.m. in front of the APPLE Store in The Shops at Nanuet. It will feature a Menorah Lighting Ceremony, fire juggler, Chanukah refreshments and live music. Get more information here.  

Rockland County Legislative Budget & Finance Committee

The committee will receive the report on the proposed 2014 budget, vote on the proposed budget and vote on appropriating budget items. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at 11 New Hempstead Road in New City.

Tuesday, Dec. 3        

Clarkstown Town Board Workshop     

The town board will hold a workshop beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Nanuet Board of Education

The school board will meet at 7:30 p.m. at Nanuet High School and discuss student achievement and Common Core State Standards at the Highview Elementary School. Other agenda items include a vote on accepting a $500 donation from Exxon Mobil’s Educational Alliance Program and allocating it to the high school’s math or science program and a vote to form a committee to explore corporate sponsorships.

Smashburger Benefit For United Hospice

Smashburger will donate a percentage of the day’s proceeds to UHR.

Thursday, Dec. 5

Rockland County Legislature

The Rockland County Legislature will start its meeting on the proposed 2014 budget at 6 p.m. The meeting takes place at 11 New Hempstead Road in New City. 

Nanuet Civic Association 

The Nanuet Civic Association will meet at 7:15 p.m. in the Nanuet Library. Attendees are asked in the spirit of giving, to bring canned or dried goods that will be donated to the local food bank. Representatives from People to People and Meals on Wheels will speak The Association will be updated on issues by the Clarkstown Police Department, highway department and Nanuet Fire Department. The Zoning Board has just about finished its plans for the future re-zoning of Nanuet and the association awaits their recommendations.

United Hospice Of Rockland Honors Veterans

United Hospice of Rockland’s annual Veterans Recognition Event will take place from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Salvation Army Conference Center at 440 West Nyack Road in West Nyack.  In recognition of the sacrifice and service that veterans have made and to commemorate Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, Hospice is inviting veterans and a family member to a special screening of “Honor Flight,” a remarkable, heartwarming movie, which premiered on December 7, 2012. “Honor Flight” documents how a Midwest community pays homage to their World War II veterans by arranging, through the Honor Flight program, to fly them free of charge to the newly opened World War II memorial in Washington, DC. Pearl River Elks Hoop Shoot

The Pearl River Elks annual “Hoop Shoot” free throw shooting contest will be held at the Highview Elementary School at 24 Highview Avenue in Nanuet with registration at 5:45 p.m. and the contest starting at 6 p.m. The Hoop Shoot is free to boys and girls who will be between the ages 8 to 13 on April 1, 2014. Proof of age such as a copy of a birth certificate or passport is required. Each contestant has 25 attempts to make a basket from the free throw line. The boy and girl in each age group with the best score advances to compete in district, state and regional Hoop Shoot contests. Go here for more information.
