County Of Rockland Honors Firefighter Jared Lloyd

County Executive Ed Day presented the Al DeFlumere Award of Valor to Jared’s mother, Sabrail Davenport, Jared’s father, Calvin Lloyd and Chief Ken Conjura of the Columbian Engine Co. # 1 and the Spring Valley Fire Department. The Al DeFlumere Award of Valor is bestowed upon individuals who have shown unusual heroism and courage in risking their lives, while attempting to save the lives of others.

County Executive Ed Day said, “We come together to remember and honor a true American hero. Firefighter Jared Lloyd of the Columbian Engine Company #1 gave his life in the service to others. As a former first responder myself I understand that the work we do is inherently dangerous, but this has been a difficult loss for our county and for all the volunteers who risk their lives day after day protecting us. We know that awards, honors, and accolades will not bring the closure and understanding that we still seek. But they do demonstrate the depth of caring and appreciation that Rockland holds for Jared Lloyd.”

County Legislator Toney Earl said, “Most people run away from burning buildings. They do not enter them over and over to search and rescue people stuck inside. Only the most selfless, loving and courageous have what it takes. Only the most valiant, like Jared Lloyd. Our collective hearts broke when we learned of his sacrifice and none shattered harder than those of his mother, other family members, and fellow firefighters. Volunteer Firefighter Jared Lloyd put everything on the line and helped save more than 100 lives. He truly deserves to be recognized for his valor.”

Senator Elijah Reichlin-Melnick, Assemblyman Ken Zebrowski and Assemblyman Mike Lawler presented Firefighter Lloyd’s family with framed copies of the Resolution which was passed in the State Senate and Assembly honoring the life and heroic actions of Jared Lloyd: https://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/resolutions/2021/k210

Senator Elijah Reichlin-Melnick said, “Volunteer Firefighter Jared Lloyd is a hero who the people of Rockland County will always remember for making the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Jared ran into a terrifying inferno time and again to help save hundreds of lives at the Evergreen Court Adult Home fire in Spring Valley. It was a solemn honor today to present his family with a resolution from the New York State Senate, to recognize his heroism, his selfless sacrifice, and his unwavering dedication to saving the lives of his fellow community members. May his memory live on in the hearts and minds of his loving family, his firefighter brothers and sisters, and in the collective memories of the people of Rockland County and the state of New York.”

Assemblyman Ken Zebrowski said, “While our community remains devastated by the tragic loss of Jared, we hold his family in our hearts to honor his life and unbelievable heroism. Jared made the ultimate sacrifice for his fellow neighbor, courage that is often hard to fully grasp. We will always remember his remarkable service, the bravery he displayed and the many lives he saved that night. Jared Lloyd is a true hero in every sense of the word, and our thanks will never be enough.”

Assemblyman Ken Zebrowski said,

Assemblyman Mike Lawler said, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Jared Lloyd’s heroic actions on that fateful early morning in March saved the lives of hundreds of residents of the Evergreen Court Home for Adults. We can never truly repay the debt all of Rockland County owes him, but we will always remember his life and continuously celebrate his heroism. Jared’s life of service is an example to all Rockland County residents, and we are better for having known Jared.”

Deacon Reginald Anderson of the First Baptist Church of Spring Valley read a statement from Sabrail Davenport, the mother of Jared Lloyd:

I would like to thank County Executive, Ed Day for honoring my son with this well-deserved award. I would like to also thank the state legislators that are present and absent, my pastor Rev. McWilliams, Rockland County Fire and Police Departments, and the Rockland County community at large for recognizing the impact Jared made in this county which led him to become a recipient of this prestigious award.
