David And Anita Goldwasser Lost Over 75 Pounds At Peak Physique

David Goldwasser talks about the couples' weight loss journey.

Nanuet, N.Y. (January 28, 2019) – David Goldwasser always had weight issues. Growing up, he always was aware of it but was never really into fitness or exercise, other than what kids his generation did, playing ball in the street or riding bikes around the neighborhood.
As David and Anita were getting older, it was becoming increasingly more difficult to keep the weight off. They belonged to several commercial gyms over the years, where they never really saw the results they hoped for. In January 2017, they finally decided it was time to commit to losing weight and get into shape, as David was turning 60 that summer, as well as their daughter’s July wedding. In January 2017, David weighed 245 lbs. and joined the 6 Week Challenge at Peak Physique and finally saw the results that he thought he can achieve.

David Goldwasser talks about the couples' weight loss journey.

1) Why did you choose Peak Physique Personal Training, Bootcamp and Boxing?
We have tried several other commercial gyms and did not see the results we wanted. I like to box, and I find it’s a great release of energy, as well as a great overall workout. I figured that given half of the classes were boxing, and I’m a competitive type of person, what did I have to lose.

2) How many pounds did you lose so far? How long did it take?
In 2017, I lost 35 lbs. and in 2018 I lost another 18 lbs. Anita has lost almost 25 lbs. in total over the same period.

3) Was it easier to do it as a couple?
It is SO much easier doing this together. First, we keep each other accountable to the program. Second, we also keep each other motivated and focused on what needs to be done. We also go food shopping together for the same type of meals. It would be so much harder if one of us stayed on a low fat/carb meal plan, while the other sat across with a bacon cheeseburger and fries!

4) How did Peak Physique help you meet your weight loss goal?
They taught us what the best type of food is for weight loss. It’s their Yes, No, and No Way list of foods. By staying predominately with the Yes list of foods, it’s hard not to see the weight loss. Also, they taught us that you can’t out train a bad diet. In other words, it doesn’t matter how many times a week you are at the gym, if your food intake is out of sorts, you’re not going to see results.

5) How often did you work out at Peak Physique?
I tried at the beginning to work out at Peak Physique at least 4 to 5 times a week. At times I was able to get in 6 sessions. Anita went about 2-3 times a week.

6) What is your favorite form of exercise to do and why?
I love to box. Maybe it’s the physical nature of the sport stemming back to my days playing football. I find that it’s a great release, not to mention a great way to burn calories.

7) What did you change in your diet?
I’m a steak and potatoes kind of guy, and Anita likes her desserts. We realized that we had to change what we were doing. So now, its more fish and poultry and vegetables. We limit the amount of potatoes or bread as much as possible. And occasionally having dessert is okay, but now we keep frozen yogurt pops and other “healthier” options on hand.

8) How did you manage to integrate this healthy lifestyle into your life?
We just made the decision that this is something we had to do. We made it a priority. We had to admit to ourselves that the way we were eating was not the healthiest and that we had to change. Once we started seeing the results, it was easy to maintain the momentum. When we would go out to eat, and the main dish included vegetables and potato or pasta, we would ask for a double serving of vegetables and not potato. If we went out for breakfast, instead of hash browns, we would ask for sliced tomato. By going to Peak Physique and listening to Steve and Eva, it empowered us to make these changes and stand up for what we wanted for ourselves.

9) What is the biggest struggle: food, exercise, temptation?
The biggest struggle is maintaining focus. When you have been overweight and out of shape as we have, the process becomes a marathon, not a sprint. Becoming overweight didn’t happen overnight and taking the weight off is not going to happen overnight either.
One of the things I do is to put the exercise classes right onto my work schedule, so I make going to the gym a priority. This gives me lifestyle balance. Also, once again, seeing success in losing weight makes keeping to the process easier.

10) What motivates you to continue with this lifestyle?
We like the way we look now. When we look back at the “before” pictures, we can’t believe how much we let ourselves go. We have more energy, we have higher self esteem on how we look. Family and friends can’t believe the transformation.

11) What are your goals for the future?
We’re not done yet! I still have about 8 more pounds to lose and Anita has about the same. This will get us back to our goal weight. We want to continue to go to the gym and work out. We are looking forward to the warmer weather, so we can go hiking in the Hudson Valley and enjoy being outside. Given our weight loss and how we both feel about our success so far, there’s no going back to the way we were.

12) What is your best piece of advice for those starting their weight loss journey?
The best piece of advice I have for newbies in their weight loss journey is to take it slowly. Don’t rush the process and don’t get frustrated if you don’t see success right away. Everyone is different, and everyone’s body reacts differently to change. As I mentioned earlier, the process is a marathon and you need to pace yourself. Set intermediate goals, maybe set a goal to lose 5 lbs. Then when you reach that goal, set another 5 lbs. goal, and so on. In the end, you should be able to lose the weight you originally set your mind to lose.

"I would like to thank David And Anita Goldwasser for sharing their weight loss journey. As you may know, I am on my weight loss journey and started the Six Week Weight Loss Body Transformation Challenge at Peak Physique two weeks ago. I have already lost 8lbs with the help of Steve and Eva Eckert, and the awesome coaches here. I also have met many interesting people, who have had successes in their goals of loosing weight here. David And Anita are a true success story and should be applauded for their transformation. They did it the old fashion way with hard work and good nutrition. I am inspired by these stories, and look forward to writing more about people's weight loss successes at Peak Physique" Jacqueline Cassagnol, MSN, RN, PhD(c), Founder & President of Worldwide Community First Responder, Inc.
