Diane Kolesar Lost 40 Pounds At Peak Physique

Diane Kolesar talks about her weight loss journey.

Nanuet, N.Y. (February 25, 2019) – Diane Kolesar grew up having a very active childhood. She played sports all year round and was always outside riding bikes, playing pickup games of softball, basketball, and etc. The only time she remembered sitting still was in school. She went into the United States Marines shortly after graduating high school. "Two weeks before graduating boot-camp, I tore the ACL in my left knee. It was the most heart wrenching feeling I've ever experienced because I knew I was done" said Diane Kolesar.

She did not have surgery to repair the ACL until a couple of years later, when she wanted to play softball in college. "I was in a brace from hip to ankle for over a month. Even after rehab therapy, the doctor would not clear me to play. He felt my knee was too weak. As you can imagine, I was not active at all and packed on a lot of weight" said Diane Kolesar. She went on to graduate with a bachelors in criminal justice. After graduation, she was accepted into the New York State police academy. "I didn't make it there either because once again, I tore the ACL. I have had about five or six knee surgeries in total. Again, lack of activity aided in packing on more pounds" said Diane Kolesar.

She was instructed by her orthopedist to build up muscle around the knee to help support it. In the meantime, she married her childhood sweetheart and had two children, two very big babies. Her son weighed 8 lbs. 11 oz. and her daughter weighed in at a whopping 9 lbs. 10 oz. "My body-weight never recovered. I ran around every day with two very active kids, never having time for myself. It almost felt like my individual existence was fading away. Throughout the years, I tried several big chain gyms and fad diets with no significant success, losing a few lbs. here and there" said Diane Kolesar.

1) Why did you choose Peak Physique Personal Training, Bootcamp and Boxing?

During the summer of 2016, both of my children went to a sleep away camp, leaving me home alone with nothing to do but sit around depressed, feeling sorry for myself. I was scrolling through Facebook and saw an ad for Peak Physique. I signed up for Peak literally because I saw a picture of the eagle, globe and anchor from the USMC on the website. It lit a spark within me to try and regain a little of who I used to be.

2) How many pounds did you lose so far? How long did it take?

I am down a total of 40 lbs. It took me around 7 weeks to drop the first 25 and then consistently lost approximately 2-3 lbs. per week until I reached my ultimate goal of 110lbs.

3) How did Peak Physique help you meet your weight loss goal?

Peak Physique gave me all the tools I needed to succeed, both in and out of the gym. The classes and instructors are amazing. They motivate me to go after what I want and have a way to push me past my comfort zone. My fellow members are there to help and encourage while they workout right alongside me. Peak Physique also introduced me to Herbalife products. As busy as I am, this was key in helping with my atrocious eating habits.

4) How often did you work out at Peak Physique?

I started with 2-3 classes per week but increased to 5-6 days per week once I realized its effectiveness for both my body and mind.

5) What is your favorite form of exercise to do and why?

I’m not sure I can pick just one. I love them all. At this point in my journey, I am going to say that strength training on the TRX is what I look forward to the most.

6) Have you had to deal with any injuries along the way?

I still have no ACL in my left knee, so there are some exercises that I need to modify, but I don’t let it hold me back and neither to the instructors.

7) What did you change in your diet?

I am a big fan of the Herbalife products. Herbalife has so much more then protein shakes and I love the flavors which help me stay on track. I now eat vegetables which were completely missing from my diet before Peak. I eat breakfast every day which was also completely missing from my diet. I am very conscious of what I eat, but not obsessive. I make sure I am eating every 2-3 hrs., making sure not to wait too long in between meals. I actually eat a lot more now than I ever did. It’s just more of the right stuff and much less of the junk.

8) How did you manage to integrate this healthy lifestyle into your life?

This was a little more challenging as a busy mom with two incredibly active kids, who also has 3 part-time jobs. I can’t say enough how crucial Herbalife has been in my journey. It makes it easy to plan and pack while I am out running around. I was also able to lean on the Peak Physique private members Facebook page to help with ideas of meals to go and making the right choices at restaurants.

9) What is the biggest struggle: food, exercise, temptation?

Temptation and food are probably my biggest struggle. My son is a teenage distance runner who requires a completely different diet. My teenage daughter is just extremely picky and my husband requires his own modified diet for medical reasons. It was hard in the beginning to prepare meals that met all our needs without me “tasting” my sons pasta dishes, etc. As time went on, my cravings changed and I no longer was tempted to “taste” what everyone else was eating.

10) What motivates you to continue with this lifestyle?

I can’t even imagine going back to where I was. I was tired, overweight, lazy and depressed. I am now a very strong, confident, independent woman walking around with my head held high. I no longer walk around with slumped shoulders feeling invisible. Weight-loss aside, I can honestly say the strength and confidence I have gained has been the best thing that I have experienced for myself in a very long time.

11) What are your goals for the future?

My goal for the future is very simple... to keep on doing what I’ve been doing and start each day with my head held high.

12) What is your best piece of advice for those just starting their weight loss journey?

My best piece of advice would be to just get up off your behind and do something. Think about what you want and go for it. Stop making excuses. It is going to be hard and at first you may want to quit, but push that thought right out of your head. Half the battle is mental determination and discipline. Train your mind and your body will follow.
