Fairway Market Closing In Nanuet
Company officials said the decision was made due to the closing of other major retailers at the Shops at Nanuet.

NANUET, NY — The Fairway supermarket in Nanuet is closing Wednesday, possibly a victim of the grocery company's continuing financial woes but certainly a victim of the national retail crisis being played out locally at the Shops at Nanuet.
The Shops at Nanuet opened in 2013. The 65,000-square-foot Fairway was an anchor for the 750,000 square foot open-air shopping center along with Sears and Macy's, both of which closed earlier in 2019.
The retail crisis has hit the Hudson Valley as everywhere else across the country. According to Coresight Research, as of Sept. 20, US retailers have announced 8,567 store closures in 2019.

Fairway's only stores in the Hudson Valley are in Nanuet and Pelham. There are two other stores in the New York-based chain close to Rockland: in Paramus and Woodland Park.
Store management put up signs Monday announcing the store would close Wednesday. A shopper reported the store was literally being dismantled while she was there. According to the sign, "It wasn't an easy decision, but the decision was made due to the closing of other major retailers at the shopping complex and the resulting significant decrease in foot traffic at the mall. This is an isolated business decision as a result of the changes within the Shops at Nanuet."

The company CEO told the Rockland Report that employees have been offered jobs at other stores.
In addition, the New York based chain, which was sold during bankruptcy proceedings three years ago, now is up for sale again, Bloomberg reported.
