Fire At Thruway Deli Closes Route 59 Tuesday Afternoon
Heavy smoke could be seen throughout the community.

NANUET, NY — A fire at the Thruway Deli in Nanuet closed Route 59 for a time Tuesday from Grandview Avenue to Forman Drive.
At 1:35 pm, the Clarkstown Police Department responded to 330 W Route 59 in Nanuet for a report of a commercial structure fire. Heavy smoke was observed coming from the store fronts as the first patrol units responded. The store employees from Dunkin’ Donuts, which is located next to the Thruway Deli, first noticed the smoke.
The fire is believed to have started in the Thruway Deli, which also sustained the most damage. The deli was closed for business at the time of the fire and unoccupied by any employees at the time of the fire.

The other adjacent stores in the row sustained smoke damage but appeared to be vacant at this time.
The flames were extinguished by the Nanuet Fire Engine Company and firefighters from several neighboring departments. It was reported that one fireman did sustain a minor injury and was cleared at the scene by Nanuet Community Ambulance Corps, police said.
