Nanuet, N.Y. (September 23rd, 2019) – Growing up, all through school Lissette Hernandez was a ballet and jazz dancer. She enjoyed being fit and slim. "Of course, during those early years, weight was never an issue. Shortly after college, I got married and had a child. With that came changes, conflicts, difficulties and eventually a divorce. I let myself go and sought to satisfy difficulties, short comings and conflicts with comfort food. I went from weighing 130 pounds to 196 pounds. I found it difficult to hold conversations without losing my breath. I was aware that the weight was affecting my health and decided to focus on getting fit. Initially, I joined weight watchers where I remained for approximately three months. They focus eating with a point system based on height, weight and points. This approached was welcomed and it worked. However, I did not wish to keep a lifestyle where I needed to rely on a point system to nurture my body and lose weight. Therefore, I joined a gym. I worked on my own consistently six days a week for about two hours daily. Some of the weight came off, but I reached a plateau. I was bored of going to the gym on my own." said Lissette Hernandez.

Deanna Kerins talks about her weight loss journey.

1) Why did you choose Peak Physique Personal Training, Bootcamp and Boxing?

My best friend had mentioned Steve Eckert and stated that he had Peak Physique, a bootcamp, boxing and weight loss gym. She had researched the gym, disclosed that they ran a weight loss gym and suggested it. I wondered in one afternoon and observed a bootcamp session. I noted that there was a lot of running around and yelling. At the time, the gym appeared quite chaotic for I did not understand how it was run. Therefore, I walked away from the opportunity of joining at that time. A year later, my weight was at 174 and this was still out of my comfort zone. Therefore, I made it a point to lose ten pounds a few days prior to walking into Peak Physique.

2) How many pounds did you lose so far? How long did it take?

I met with Eliana Vargas who explained how the gym provided sessions, showed me before /after pictures of past and current members and encouraged me to try a six-week challenge. I accepted and lost a total of 18 pounds during that six-week challenge.

3) How did Peak Physique help you meet your weight loss goal?

Peak Physique provided a “no” and “yes” food list on their page. This list included all the foods needed to help lose the weight quickly. I followed the list strictly without substitutions or excuses.

4) How often did you work out at Peak Physique?

I worked out every day for an hour, alternating between boxing and bootcamp classes. At the beginning, I started with one class, an hour of exercise. Currently, I work out for two hours daily and taught my body that it is capable of all I give it. I embrace the aches and pains, trust the process and enjoy the journey.

5) What is your favorite form of exercise to do and why?

Bootcamp provides that physical challenge that makes me push for more. Boxing gives me the opportunity to hit and kick the bag, which in turn alleviates stress. I love both classes equally and stress that every workout is different.

6) Have you had to deal with any injuries along the way?

Thankfully, I have never had to worry about any injuries during my workouts. I have a should injury from before Peak Physique. The coaches inquire, demonstrate interest and provide modifications to ensure there are no further injuries.

7) What did you change in your diet?

I shop for healthy foods that feed and provide needed nutrients to my body. “Temptations” remain at the shops and not in my cupboards.

8) How did you manage to integrate this healthy lifestyle into your life?

A healthy lifestyle is a conscious choice you make. You plan meals, attend classes at the very least six times through the week, and show up regardless of your emotions. When you feel down, you push yourself beyond what you believe is possible and you attain the best workouts.

9) What is the biggest struggle: food, exercise, temptation?

My biggest struggle is performing “push-ups”. I have a shoulder injury from a few years back and the pain I felt, often stops me from pushing past the fear of that injury.

10) What motivates you to continue with this lifestyle?

The motivation comes in different forms (e.g.: exercise, food, emotional intelligence, etc.). I’ve often wanted to keep a lean and athletic body. My major drive is believing in myself, remembering that “I AM WORTH IT” and setting an example for others.

11) What are your goals for the future?

My future holds a great many dreams. Amongst them, I will share that I would like to help coach others to step out of the box, take a leap of faith and become the best versions of themselves. If I paved a pathway for myself when I thought nothing was possible, I would love to gently and amorously helps others pave their way to their dreams.

12) What is your best piece of advice for those just starting their weight loss journey?

Take a good look within and remember “YOU ARE WORTH IT AND YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL”. Take the time to care for yourself, set your pace, push beyond your imposed limits, enjoy the process and embrace the physical/emotional transformations.

Remember, Peak Physique is here to help you obtain your goals. This gym offers guidance with meals, exercises, modifications, members with the similar goals and a family-like community who support you every step of the way.
