Meet Dr. Louis J. Auguste: Winner of 2019 Humanitarian Award!

He will be honored at WCFR Eighth Anniversary and Fundraising Gala which will be held on October 5th, 2019 from 6-10pm at the Time Nyack.

Nyack, N.Y. (July 1, 2019) – Join Worldwide Community First Responder, Inc. on Saturday, October 5th, 2019 for their Eighth Anniversary and Fundraising Gala. The gala will bring together like-minded individuals and businesses who share the same belief that education and training can help save lives, while celebrating the organization's accomplishments and honoring their lifesaving partners. The event, from 6-10 pm, will be held on Saturday, October 5th, 2019 at The Time Nyack, a hip, and upscale 133-room boutique lifestyle hotel, where those coming to Nyack, NY can stay in comfort. Attendees can expect a cocktail hour, live entertainment, and fine dining from BV's Grill.

Worldwide Community First Responder, Inc. proudly announces Louis J. Auguste, MD, MPH as the Winner of WCFR 2019 Humanitarian of the Year Award.

Louis J. Auguste, MD is a surgical oncologist practicing on the North Shore of Long Island, New York. He obtained his medical degree from the State University of Haiti School of Medicine in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He completed his training in General Surgery at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center and a Sub-specialty in Surgical Oncology and Head and neck Surgery at The Roswell Park Memorial Cancer Institute, in Buffalo, NY. He added a new dimension to his understanding of population medicine by acquiring a Masters of Public Health degree at the Mailman School of Health Policy and Management of Columbia University. Over the years, Dr. Auguste has published over 75 articles and abstracts in peer-reviewed medical journals. His research has focused on the mechanisms of stress-induced injuries to the gastric mucosa and different means of protection of the stomach in such situation. He has also extensively written about diseases of the thyroid and para-thyroid glands. He has risen to the rank of Clinical Professor of Surgery at the Zucker Hofstra-NorthwellSchool of Medicine. He has presented more than 120 lectures at departmental grand rounds across the New York area and at multiple professional conventions in the US and abroad. He has been a guest lecturer at Umberto Polyclinic I in Rome and at the University of Padua, Italy, as well as a visiting professor at the State University of Haiti School of Medicine, at the University of Notre-Dame School of Medicine in Port-au-Prince, Haiti and Justinien University Hospital in Cap-Haitien, Haiti.

Dr. Auguste is a member of 15 scientific, medical and surgical societies. He is a past president of the Queens County Medical Society and he is currently the secretary of the Board of Trustees of the same society.

Despite his busy practice, Dr. Auguste continues to teach the surgical residents and to mentor young college students considering a career in Medicine. He has been named Surgical Attending of the Year, four times. He has also served as President of the LIJ Medical Staff Society and the secretary of the LIJ Medical Board for three years.

He was elected President of the New York Chapter of the AMHE in January 2008. He developed a program of academic support to the Justinien University Hospital in 2009, with clinicians from the USA participating in the teaching of the residents and attending staff at the Hospital. Four days after the earthquake of January 12, 2010, Dr. Auguste led a group of 107 health professionals who were deployed in the General Hospital (HUEH). That center received the larger share of victims of the earthquake.

For his work in Haiti and in the New York Community, Dr. Auguste has been honored by the United Black Men of Queens, the Haitian American Psychiatric Association, the Association of Haitian Physicians Abroad (AMHE), the Queens County Medical Society, the Town of North Hempstead, the Medical Society of the State of New York, the New York Chapter of AAPI (American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin), different county, state and National Legislators, etc... He has been named a TOP Doctor on Long Island, NY for the past 20 years by Castle & Connelly. He was recognized as one of the Long Island Physician Heroes of 2010 by the Long Island Business News. For his humanitarian activities, Dr. Auguste was inducted in the Gold Humanism Honor Society in June 2014.
