Rockland County Tourism Hosts Rockland Underground Tours
The first underground tour 'Teach Your Children Well' will take place on Jun. 3.
From Rockland County Tourism: For the past few years, we have put together special insider tours with an eco-twist: Rockland Underground Tours. They build on KRB's 20 years of going off-road in the county.
Our first tour in 2017 is coming up on June 3rd - read about all the tours down below! We hope you can join us!!! Please RSVP online

#1 – Teach Your Children Well
In the heart of Nanuet, minutes from busy Rte 59, is an oasis of green learning! Come see what the Nanuet School District is doing with its cutting edge Outdoor Education Center, as demonstrated by our tour guide and teacher-extraordinaire, Chuck Barone. Then head over to the Children of Promise Stable (COPS) Barn & Sensory Trail, which provides equine therapy and learning for kids with special needs. Sat. June 3, 2017/ 2:00 – 3:30 pm TO SIGN UP
#2 – Geology Crawl of Bear Mountain
Follow EPA geologist Diana Cutt on a fascinating tour of Bear Mountain State Park and you’ll soon understand much more about why Rockland rocks! We even hope to get special access to Iona Island – a big bonus for everyone coming on this fascinating eco-tour indeed!

#3 – Storing Seeds & Boosting Bio-Diversity
Meet at the Nyack Library where Nyack Seed Exchange founders Laurie Needell and Jennifer Giunta Hausler will describe how a seed exchange works, and show techniques for harvesting and storing popular seed crops. Then, stroll over to the Nyack Community Garden where “Autogarden” inventor, Dr. Duncan Bell, will demonstrate his efficient automatic watering systems and more! #4 – Walkway of Heroes & Nike Park
Join tour host Orangetown Town Supervisor Andy Stewart at 10:00 amfor the 50th Anniversary celebration of the Walkway of Heroes and Veterans Day Ceremony in Tappan before heading over to Camp Shanks Museum where millions of GIs prepared for WWII. Our tour officially begins there at 11:00 am. Then we’ll hop a bus to Camp Bluefields on Clausland Mountain to hike the "tunnels," an abandoned & overgrown military training facility.
