SUFFERN, NY — The Rockland County District Attorney seeks to stop money from any sale of Scarr Funeral Home and associated properties going to the owners, Leonard Scarr and his spouse.

As Plaintiff - Claiming Authority, the DA filed a civil forfeiture action in the Rockland County Supreme Court asking for a temporary restraining order.

The Honorable Robert Berliner signed the order, which freezes the Scarrs’ bank accounts and stays the sale of the Scarr Funeral Home until further order of the court, DA Thomas E. Walsh II announced Tuesday.

Scarr, the owner of a funeral home in Suffern, was indicted Sept. 4 on nine felony counts. Prosecutors alleged that between July 11 and Oct. 11, 2019, Scarr forged death certificates for three clients who had set up pre-paid burial escrow accounts, and then withdrew the accounts' funds, each of which exceeded $6,000.
