Spring Valley Street Could Be Named In Honor Of Slain Guard
Sandra Wilson, a Finkelstein Memorial Library security guard, was stabbed to death last year after she told a man to turn down his music.

SPRING VALLEY, NY—A portion of Main Street in Spring Valley could soon be named in memory of Sandra Wilson, 52, a Finkelstein Memorial Library security guard who was stabbed to death while working at the library earlier this year.
On Wednesday, Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) passed legislation through the New York State Senate to designate a portion of State Route 45 in the Village of Spring Valley as the Sandra L. Wilson Memorial Highway.
"She lived in the community. She raised her family, went to Spring Valley High School down the street and was someone that you really wanted to know. So we wanted to dedicate the road right by the library in her name to remember her legacy and to make sure we remember the contributions she's made to our community," Sen. Carlucci said Monday.

Carlucci's legislation also passed in the Assembly and is now headed to Gov. Andrew Cuomo's desk where he is expected to sign it.
In late-February of this year, Blanchard Glaudin, a 25-year-old homeless man, was indicted on one count of second-degree murder in connection with Wilson's killing. Wilson was attacked at the computer terminals on the third floor of the library. Police said a preliminary investigation revealed that Glaudin stabbed Wilson after she told him to turn his music down.

Nearby library patrons jumped a man they said had a knife in his hand, police said. Wilson was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, where she died from her injuries.
“Spring Valley resident Sandra Wilson sadly was the victim of senseless violence. She was doing her job when a disturbed and violent individual attacked her. We need to recognize Wilson’s life and her legacy," Sen. Carlucci said. "She was someone who family and friends said was always kind, helpful and generous to others. My hope is her family, our community, and beyond remember Wilson with this roadway, and we honor her memory.”
Wilson began working at the Finkelstein Memorial Library as a clerk in 2011 and worked her way up through the ranks, obtaining her security guard certification in 2018 and being promoted to full-time Security Aide in 2019.
Wilson is survived by her mother, Shirley Wilson, and her two sons and daughter.
