Worldwide Community First Responder, Inc. proudly announces one of its Sixth Anniversary and Fundraising Gala Honorees: Sciencia Torchon, MSN,RN. WCFR is extremely grateful for Sciencia Torchon. Sciencia is an individual who has dedicated her time to those in need. She has worked as an interpreter for non-English speaking patients. Through the years, she transitioned from being a unit nurse, charge nurse, community mental health nurse, nurse administrator, to deputy director of nursing. Now, she volunteers her time at organizations like PEF, Chi Eta Phi, HANA, and Lakay Timoun. She has donated her time to WCFR at multiple training events in our mission to "prevent deaths worldwide through education and training".
Sciencia Torchon started her adult life working as a stenographer for New York State at Letchworth Village in 1980. Two years later, she received a promotion and transferred to Rockland Psychiatric Center, where she worked and elevated through the ranks for the 35 years. In the early 80s, she volunteered at her church and taught English, as a second language, to adults immigrants. Her volunteering at Rockland

Psychiatric Center led her to become an interpreter for non-English speaking patients and be a
part of the 911 disaster response team. Soon after, she enrolled at Rockland Community College and became a registered nurse. She continued her education and obtained a bachelor’s degree in organizational management from Nyack College and then her master’s degree in nursing administration from Mercy College. According to Sciencia, people always seem to recognize leadership qualities in her that she sometimes does not see in herself. However, she takes pride in knowing that she is a responsible and conscientious person, who leads by example.
Sciencia and her husband, Edgard, have been married for 32 years and are the proud parents of
four children and three grandchildren, and they are both retired from state service. Her husband
has since returned to Haiti, and Sciencia hopes to join him there soon. She will be busy helping
out in the family business and also volunteering at Lakay Timoun, a faith-based organization
committed to serving single mothers and children in Saint Michel de L’Attalaye, Haiti.
