Baby Boomers Love These NYC Neighborhoods, Report Shows
The Big Apple is home to 14 of the 20 U.S. ZIP codes with the biggest baby boomer populations. Here's where they are.
NEW YORK — Baby boomers are holding onto New York City despite a reported millennial invasion. More than a dozen Big Apple neighborhoods are home to some of the nation's biggest boomer populations, a recent RentCafe report shows.
The real estate website examined Census data for the 250 largest U.S. cities to determine which are the most popular among the generation born between 1948 and 1962. New York City emerged as the biggest boomer town, hosting 14 of the 20 ZIP codes with the largest numbers of baby boomers in the country, RentCafe found.
"This certainly challenges the myth that all seniors prefer Florida with New York City boasting almost half as many baby boomers as the entire state of Florida — 1.4 million versus 3.9 million," the June 3 report reads.

Brooklyn's 11234 ZIP code, encompassing the neighborhoods of Bergen Beach, Mill Basin and Flatlands, has a bigger boomer population than any other in the U.S. with 19,450 members of the generation, RentCafe says.
That's among eight Brooklyn ZIP codes that made the top 20, along with four in Queens and two in Manhattan, the report shows.

Another part of Brooklyn placed 16th among the areas that have seen the largest influxes of baby boomers, according to RentCafe. The 11239 ZIP code, which includes Starrett City, saw its boomer population increase 35 percent to 2,607 from 2012 to 2017, the report shows.
While their numbers are larger in New York, boomers account for a bigger share of the populations in southern and western cities, according to the report. Places in Arizona, Texas and Florida nabbed the top five spots on RentCafe's list of the top 20 ZIP codes with the largest shares of baby boomers.
