MONTEBELLO, NY — A teenager was killed and another was charged with vehicular manslaughter in a crash on Route 202 in Montebello Saturday, and members of the community are wearing blue and white Monday in commemoration.

Five teens, all under 18, had been in the car, which was found flipped on its side by Ramapo police at 2:50 a.m. The vehicle had struck a utility pole.

One of the passengers, sophomore Jacqueline Zangrilli, was declared dead at the scene, police said.

The other four were transported to both Nyack Hospital and Westchester Medical Center and treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Rockland County District Attorney’s Office and the Ramapo Police Department Crash Investigation Team alleged that the driver, a 17-year-old Suffern resident, was intoxicated. He was charged with manslaughter 2nd, assault 2nd, vehicular assault 1st, vehicular manslaughter 2nd and DWI and arraigned virtually in Rockland County Youth Superior Court. He was released on his own recognizance and was scheduled to return to court on Monday. Police withheld his identity due to his juvenile status.

Route 202 was closed between Copeland Drive and Viola Road for 18 hours for cleanup and extensive utility repairs to restore power to the neighborhood. The full probe into the cause of the crash is expected to take some time to complete, police said.

Zangrilli is the daughter of a teacher in the Pearl River school district. District officials there sent a message to the school community saying that many in Rockland County would be wearing Suffern High School's colors on Monday and encouraging staff and Pearl River High School students to also wear blue and white.

They're also overflowing a fundraising site set up to help her family afford a funeral.

On GoFundMe, an account set up to help defray the family's expenses has nearly doubled its initial goal of $50,000. Zangrilli was described as full of life and love. "She made others smile in an instant and was quick to bring on laughter in a room. Jacqueline loved school and was very involved in sports. She played basketball and field hockey, excelling in both. Jacqueline leaves behind her loving family, her close friends and her former teammates."
