14K Customers Without Power In Rockland County Christmas 2020

More than 80,000 in the lower and mid-Hudson Valley were left without electric power by the Christmas Eve storm.

ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — More than 14,000 Rockland customers of Orange & Rockland Utilities were without electricity at 8 a.m. Friday morning after a severe storm blew through the Hudson Valley.

The four utilities that serve the region reported more than 80,000 Hudson Valley customers out on Christmas Day. O&R alone reported 46,000 customers out in its coverage area — about half of them in New York.

In Rockland, outages were reported across the county. Among the worst hit:

  • 24 percent of customers in Orangetown
  • 20 percent of customers in Clarkstown
  • 37 percent of customers in Airmont

O&R estimated 11 p.m. as the restoration time.
