4 Injured When Garbage Truck and SUV Crash

The collision Thursday closed Route 303 for hours.

CLARKSTOWN, NY — Four people in an SUV were injured in a collision with a garbage truck at 8:20 a.m. Thursday that closed Route 303 for hours.

Called to an accident, Clarkstown police found the two vehicles, both with substantial damage, in the roadway.

One adult and three children from the SUV sustained non-life threatening injuries.

They were treated on the scene by Congers-Valley Cottage Ambulance, Nyack Community Ambulance Corps, Nanuet Ambulance and Rockland Paramedic Services before being transported to hospitals, police said.

The driver of the garbage truck did not sustain any injuries.

As a result of the accident a large amount of hydraulic fluid was spilled onto Route 303 and an adjoining parking lot.

Due to the spill, Route 303 was closed from Lake Road in Valley Cottage to Lake Road in Congers for three hours. Castlton Environmental Contractors, LLC cleaned up without causing further contamination, police said.
