Rockland County Detective Al McMahon, Unexpectedly At 51
Mr. McMahon was with the Sheriff's Department for 29 years. He leaves behind a wife and two sons.

NEW CITY, NY — Aloysius F. McMahon, a detective with the Rockland County Sheriff's Department, died Sept. 12, 2018. He was 51.
The Sheriff's Office issued a statement Friday:
It is with deep regret that we announce the untimely passing of our brother and comrade, Detective Aloysius F. McMahon, after 29 years of dedicated service. Al began his career in the Corrections Division and later moved on to the Police Division where he became a well-known and respected crime scene detective. His unexpected passing has left us stunned and heartbroken. Godspeed Al. Please keep Al's family in your thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.
McMahon started in the Corrections Division in 1989 and became a patrol officer in 1996. He was a member of the county's Drug Task Force from 1998-99. He made detective in 1999.

He is survived by his wife Tracy and sons Ryan and Al.
A wake will be held Monday at Higgins Funeral Home, 321 S. Main St. in New City. Hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

A funeral service is set for 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony's Church, 36 W. Nyack Road, Nanuet, with burial to follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery.
