Baby Dies In 6-Year-Old's Care; Mother Arrested

After becoming trapped between a bed and a wall, the 1-year-old died at the hospital.

SPRING VALLEY, NY — A baby trapped between a bed and a wall died Saturday evening in Rockland County.

Spring Valley police were called to an apartment on Kennedy Drive for a report of a 1-year trapped between a bed and the wall.

Responding officers found the baby, still trapped and unresponsive.

Members of the Spring Valley Fire Department responded to help free the child.

Once the baby was extricated, life-saving measures began immediately, police said. Then the child was transported to Nyack Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police said their investigation revealed that the baby had been left in the custody of his 6-year-old sibling without any adult supervision.

The mother of the child, a 36-year-old Spring Valley resident, was charged with Manslaughter, a Class C Felony.
