
Clarkstown celebrated its most special students and teachers at a recent Clarkstown Special Education PTA (SEPTA) award and scholarship ceremony on June 3 at the Felix V. Festa Middle School.
"It was a special night honoring those who achieve and overcome great difficulties and recognizing those individuals who help them along their journey," said Clarkstown SEPTA President  Louise O'Hare.
There were 12 students who receieved scholarships and eigth educators who were recognized with awards for their work with special needs children in the Clarkstown School District.
Students from the following schools received scholarships:
- Jessie J. Kaplan School:Â Courtney Hoeneveld, Arielle Levine
- Clarkstown North High School:Â James Reilly, Jennifer Westburgh
- Birchwood School:Â James Fortugno III, Hansoo Lee, Christopher James Monroe, Justin Strichartz
- Clarkstown South High School:Â Zulami Aguilla-Cruz, Meredith Halfond, Caitlin Hoeneveld, Al Musiaro
Teachers that were awarded include:
Colleen Glassery - New City Elementary special education teacher
Jacole Galperin - Clarkstown North High School special education teacher
Deborah Tesi - Birchwood School special education teacher.
Patricia Nolan - Laurel Plains teacher assistant
Jennifer Catina - Clarkstown North School psychologist
Marietta Bennett - Felix V. Middle School speech pathologist
Retiring Felix Festa Middle School Principal Dianne Basso received the o and Director of Special Education Arnold Fucci were also acknowledged for outstanding service to students.Â
