Clarkstown School Budget Hearing Is May 6

CLARKSTOWN, NY — The Clarkstown Board of Education will hold a public hearing May 6 on its proposed spending plan for 2021-22.

The $220.8 million budget raises spending over the current year by 3.75 percent, district officials said. It maintains current programming and full-time employees. All initiatives requiring additional funding remain on hold.

The district received a 12 percent increase in state education aid. Also, 'one time' federal grants were received including

• $7.5 million from the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriation Act
• $4.9 million from the American Rescue Plan Act

That funding is intended (and regulated) to be used for Covid related expenses such as HEPA
filters, student technology, PPE, etc. and special programming to assist students requiring
additional support as a result of the pandemic. It is not intended to support ongoing
operational expense budgets, district officials said.

With spending at or below the state's tax cap, the estimated basic STAR exemption savings is $954.

In a budget presentation April 20, district administrators included a chart showing budget increases for recent years.

The budget and board vote is May 18.
