Clarkstown Schools Celebrate 50 Years of Lacrosse
Coach Mike Goetz, who introduced the sport to Rockland County, was honored at a recent game.

The Clarkstown schools celebrated 50 years of lacrosse in Rockland County at a recent Clarkstown North High School game.
In 1966, Clarkstown resident Michael Goetz introduced the sport of lacrosse to Clarkstown High School. Clarkstown, then one high school, was the first in Rockland County to have a lacrosse team.
Coach Goetz has been an inspiration to thousands of players over the years; in fact, many of his players have gone on to coach at all levels and founded lacrosse programs across the country, said town Supervisor George Hoehmann.

Throughout his career, Goetz coached primarily lacrosse and soccer at both North and South, once the district expanded to two high schools. He is now fully retired from both teaching and coaching.
“It was a true honor to present Coach Goetz with a certificate and declare April 2, 2016 as Coach Goetz Day in the Town of Clarkstown,” said Hoehmann.
