Co. Executive Named to Raoul Wallenberg Foundation Board

From the County Executive: Rockland County Executive Ed Day has been named an honorary member of the International Raoul Wallenberg Foundation.

The international organization develops educational programs and raises awareness about people who displayed the courage to save others during the Holocaust.

It is named after Raoul Wallenberg, a Swedish diplomat who saved the lives of thousands of Jews and others during World War II.Wallenberg disappeared in January, 1945 in Hungary after he was detained by Soviet officials. What happened to him next has been a mystery for decades."Raoul Wallenberg showed courage and moral fortitude with no regard for his personal safety," said County Executive Day. "His actions and his willingness to do the right thing saved precious lives and serves as an example for all of us."

The County Executive thanked Eduardo Eurnekian, chairman, and Baruch Tenembaum, founder, for inviting him to become an honorary member of the International Raoul Wallenberg Foundation <http://www.raoulwallenberg.net/>

"I will proudly represent the people of Rockland County in this international effort to make sure that Raoul Wallenberg is remembered as the hero he was," Day said.The Wallenberg Foundation has offices in New York, Jerusalem, Buenos Aires, Berlin and Rio de Janeiro.
