Don't Miss: Rockland Arts Council To Hold Dance Benefit
The benefit will feature Jennifer McCalla and the films of choreographer Marta Renzi.

NEW CITY, NY - From The Arts Council of Rockland: The Arts Council of Rockland and Coupe Theatre Studio present a night of music and dancing at Coupe Theatre Studio in Nanuet, N.Y., on Saturday, March 17, 2018. “Dance Your Heart Out” – a fundraising event for the Arts Council -- features the music of the ever-popular neo-swing band, Swingadelic. Swingadelic is the metropolitan area's greatest “little big band,” perfect for dancing the night away. They deliver music from Ellington and Basie to the soulful sounds of Ray Charles and have become a feature at music festivals from Boston to Philadelphia, most recently appearing at Lincoln Center's Midsummer Night Swing and NJPAC.
The evening includes swing and ballroom dance instruction for all levels, from beginner to accomplished dancer, led by Jennifer McCalla, a former United States Ballroom and Latin Champion. McCalla represented the US at four World Championships, was a principal member of The American Ballroom Theatre Company
and is currently on the National Dance Board with Fred Astaire Dance Studios, judging and coaching nationwide. As the resident competitive dance coach for NYU and Columbia, she prepares young dancers for collegiate competitions, where they garner top placements in various competitive styles and levels. McCalla loves teaching social dance, calling it “a unique form of communication that all people, from all walks of life,
and all ages can enjoy.”
This immersive experience in the spacious Coupe Theatre Studio is enhanced with a film room featuring the works of choreographer and film maker Marta Renzi. As the winner of numerous choreographic fellowships, commissions and awards, including a NY Dance and Performance Award and a Dancing in the Streets award as "a fearless explorer," Ms. Renzi has been presenting dance films and videos at festivals throughout the world and online since 1981. She started her career dancing with Twyla Tharp and was in the 1979 film Hair.
