Elective Surgeries May Begin Again In Rockland

Rockland was one of the last counties to have enough slack in the local health-care system to resume elective medical procedures.

ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — Rockland County is allowed to open up for elective surgery and outpatient treatment, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced at his Thursday briefing. It's the last county in the Hudson Valley region to be given the go-ahead.

Patients must test negative for the new coronavirus prior to any elective outpatient treatment. The State Department of Health issued guidance on resuming elective surgeries.

Cuomo had ordered the surgeries — which hospitals rely on for funding — suspended indefinitely until each county could sufficiently curb the spread of the coronavirus. Elective surgeries were recently allowed to begin in Suffolk and Westchester counties.
