Fatal Head-On Crash Wednesday On Route 202
A police officer was trying to pull over an erratic driver who instead crossed over into traffic.
RAMAPO, NY — A Spring Valley man died on Route 202 Wednesday in a head-on collision witnessed by the police officer who was trying to pull him over.
Ramapo police received a report about an erratic driver travelling from Pomona toward Suffern at about 6 p.m. The responding officer saw the described vehicle, a Toyota Camry, travelling in the southbound lane. The officer turned his vehicle around and pulled up behind the Camry, attempting to make it stop.
Moments later, he saw the car cross over the double yellow line and into an oncoming car.

The erratic driver, an 88-year-old man, died.
The operator of the other vehicle, a 35-year-old man, was transported to Hackensack Hospital by Ramapo Valley Ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.

Tallman Fire Department removed the entrapped drivers and handled fire control. Ramapo Valley Ambulance Corps., Spring Hill Ambulance Corps, Haverstraw Ambulance Corps, and Rockland Paramedics were all on scene. Rockland County Sheriff’s Department and New York State Police assisted with traffic control.
